Who is Sommerville.cc?

#bikelife is not just a passion; it's a lifelong commitment. With over 35 seasons of racing under my belt, I’ve pinned race numbers more than 1,800 times, which equates to daily racing for over five consecutive years. The road has been long, covering more than 200,000 miles filled with victories, defeats, and the inevitable experiences that come with racing—getting dropped, dealing with hundreds of flats, spills, and mishaps are all part of the journey.

Throughout these years, I’ve raced and directed teams across the globe, participating in events in various countries including the USA, Canada, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Poland, China, Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Venezuela, Belize, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. My racing licenses include USA Cycling Category 1 for Road, Cyclocross, and Mountain XC, along with Category 2 for Track, Mountain MX, and Gravity. Additionally, I hold a UCI Director Sportive License, am SafeSport Certified, and am Motor Vehicle Certified, enabling me to provide sticky bottles in the race caravan.

#coaching For over three decades, I have dedicated, committed myself to helping hundreds of athletes realize their potential and become lifetime athletes. From 1993 to 1995, I served as the USA Cycling Midwest Regional Assistant Junior Coach in collaboration with Mike Niederpruem, focusing on talent identification and development. This role included hosting coaching education clinics and talent development.

In 2001, Sommerville Sports was established with the mission of guiding athletes toward achieving their highest potential. Over the years, the organization has proudly supported numerous clients, helping them to reach milestones that range from winning local club races to competing at a national championship level. This commitment to athlete development and performance optimization has evolved, resulting in the rebranding of Sommerville Sports to Sommerville.cc in 2024.

#heritage Residing in Brooklyn, NYC for the last 30 years, David’s journey began far from the bustling streets of New York. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, and raised in New Albany, Indiana, his early years were marked by a commitment to sports, inspired by his father's example. At just six years old, David embarked on his sporting lifestyle with competitive running, a pursuit that he has passionately dedicated himself to in his younger years. He participated in his first 30k race at the age of ten and, by fourteen, had achieved an impressive sub-32 minute 10k.

Throughout his high school years at New Albany High School, David's leadership skills emerged as he took on the roles of captain for both the Track and Cross Country teams. His athletic accomplishments during this time were remarkable; he clocked a blistering 1:42.8 for the 800 meters, ran a national-level 4:08 mile, and achieved a sub-15 minute 5k on the grass. At the age of fourteen, David also discovered a lifelong passion for bike racing, adding yet another dimension to his athletic career, and has been hammering ever since.

David’s extensive experience and dedication to his craft not only reflect his personal journey but also shape the philosophy and approach at Sommerville.cc, where the focus remains on whole picture development for athletes at all levels.

The journey continues, and the love for the sport remains as strong as ever.
